3.x Installer Guide
|
|||||||||
This guide is designed to help walk you through the automatic installer offered for this program. Please pay careful attention to the notes made, as well as markings on the images that are there to help indicate what you need to do for a successful install. For file size reasons, all screenshots have been sized down. | |||||||||
If you have CHMOD all your files correctly and your iB_html is NOT in your cgi-bin, and you are ready to proceed, then you should have pulled up the URL for your installer.cgi or pl file. The following screenshots were taken on a UNIX server, though all basic installations should be virtually the same. When you pull up the URL for the installer file, you should see the screen below. If there is a No next to the MySQL query, but yes to the others, you may proceed with installation. You should see something similar to the picture below. The only one allowed to say no is marked so you can see.

This is where the majority of people make the most mistakes, so please read this information VERY carefully and refer to the screenshot below for clarification if necessary. Your CGI Path is the path found by the test file. It can also be found by installing and running the iBtest.cgi script. This will be the server path to the CGI directory. This cannot be an URL and it should not have a / at the end of it. Your non-cgi Path is the path to the html directory of your site leading to the iB_html directory. On many servers this path can be found by simply removing /cgi-bin from the path line and whatever folder you've put the CGI part of your board in. In the example below, you would remove the /cgi-bin/boards from the path to get the non-CGI path. Your CGI URL is the web address that you would use to access the directory that your ikonboard have been installed into. This WILL contain the cgi-bin folder in the address. Your non-CGI URL is the web address that you would use to access the directory that your ikonboard's iB_html directory has been installed into. This will NOT contain the cgi-bin folder in the address. Incoming and outgoing email addresses are basically addresses that will show up in outgoing and incoming email from/to the board itself. Many people do not change this information, or simply change the domain name. If
you're on a UNIX machine, more than likely you will use Send Mail. Typically
Windows servers will use STMP mail, though that can also work on many
UNIX servers if you own your own domain. The Send Mail path is the path
that we found on the perl_test.cgi script. If you are using STMP, you
will need to enter the correct address. Many times this is similar to
mail.yourdomain.com. Enter your website name, then your Board's Name, a description and the URL to the main part of your website and then you're ready to proceed.

This screen basically confirms or denies that your directories exist and are able to be written to. If any of the answers here is no, you need to go back and check what it says is wrong. Missing directories/files need to be put up and CHMOD settings must be correct (on UNIX servers) to continue. Once you've corrected any errors, hit refresh and make sure all answers are yes to proceed.

This screen basically confirms or denies that additional necessary directories exist and are able to be written to. If any of the answers here is no, you need to go back and check what it says is wrong. Missing directories/files need to be put up and CHMOD settings must be correct (on UNIX servers) to continue. Once you've corrected any errors, hit refresh and make sure all answers are yes to proceed.

Now, depending on your server, you will either have the installer extract the files from the tar archives or you may have untarred the tar files and have uploaded all files manually. Most people will have the installer extract the tar archives.
|
|||||||||
This is where you select your database. A majority of users will simply leave the default DBM Database as the choice and proceed. You can upgrade to other databases later on if your host provides it should you change your mind or have a very large, active board..

Confirming the setup of the chosen database has been completed. Proceed...

Confirming the population has been completed.

This is where you create your "Master" account or Super Administrator. Decide what name you wish to use. Pick a password that has at least 5 characters. Larger, complex passwords are highly recommended to prevent someone hacking into your board. Confirm your password in the next field. Enter a valid email address for yourself in the last two fields.

This confirms the Administrator account has been created.

Installation has been completed. You will now either be taken to your board or you will see an error like below. Either way, you have had a successful installation. Once you have completed the installation, you need to delete out installer.cgi/pl from your server. Sometimes an installer.lck or lock will appear in that directory. That is for your protection until you've had the chance to delete the installer from your server. Both files may now be deleted if you have gotten to this stage. The 6 tar files may now also be deleted from your server, as they have performed their function and are no longer necessary.
