    As a case in point, the "Active Recommendation Project (ARP) for the Library
    Without Walls" has developed utilities for an XML repository and a
    relational repository (

    It's based primarily on a Cooperative Research And Development Agreement
    (CRADA) for Knowledge Management with Xerox. The PI is Cliff Joslyn

    Research is aimed at:

    "Distributed Knowledge Systems" (DKS): communities of agents (human and
    computational) interacting with networked information resources. Examples
    include the Internet, enterprise-level Intranets, digital libraries, and
    other interactive knowledge repositories. They also view agent-based
    modeling and biocomputation from a knowledge-based perspective.

    Their goal is to help develop the scientific understanding of DKS, and apply
    it to areas of vital interest to the
    Laboratory and the nation, including the organization and management of
    scientific knowledge systems, protection of the information infrastructure,
