It will be interesting to watch how the Simputer project team will be making

Another way tried for spreading computer use to the underprivileged is through
creating state-of-the-art software to run on old computers that are otherwise
destined for the scrap heap. You may recall the name GEOS. As a business it
does not seem to have fared well, but a spinoff ('NewDeal') is still
functioning. Quoting them, "With a simple point and click interface and clear,
laser quality output, even on dot matrix printers, and video modes up to
1280x1024x16.7 million colors, it's the incredibly easy way to turn your 286,
386 or 486 PC into a graphical, state-of-the-art office. NewDeal Office runs on
computers with as little as 640K RAM and 10MB of free hard disk space." Ref.

A major obstacle is collection and transportation cost of old computers.
