Another possibility to consider is the concept that
knowledge is fundamentally a "model" of the world.
It would make sense, then, to treat knowledge acquisition
as a model-building process.
>From that viewpoint, the DKR should approximate the
"Model Construction Kit" I alluded to in my earlier
message.
Creating the tools to accurate build and interact with
complex models would give us something that would
be valuable in many different contexts -- not the least
of which are the human biological system and the
nutritional environment.
My take on matters today is that the diseases which
are endemic to industrialized civilization are largely
nutritional in origin -- a conclusion based on literature
research in nutritional biology and food processing.
Good models of these processes would:
a) Make it possible to identify the probable causes
and even predict such conditions in individuals
b) Demonstrate the health impacts of the nutritional
environment we live in.
c) Help motivate a paradigm shift so we stop
using the techniques (drugs) that were used in
yesterday's war (dyptheria, typhoid fever, and
the like) against today's enemies (heart disease,
cancer, diabetes, etc.)
In short, I see the nutritional environment as an "energy
problem" of human dimensions. We need to maximize
our mental, physical, and spiritual health if we are to
solve the problems that confront us. To do that, an
ability to model the processes would be invaluable.
I suspect that the same kind of modeling activity may
lie of the heart of a DKR.
