Sun Microsystems' peer-to-peer protocol: Project JXTA

--a prototype, next-generation network computing research project
  intended to provide easy access to peers and resources.
  The initial release is Java-based. A C-implementation is in the
  works.

Open Source project: jxta.org
--also launched by Sun. A place developers can collaborate to evolve
  Project JXTA and create innovative, distributed services and
  applications that allow users to naturally and quickly locate and
  retreive information.
