Ozone is looking interesting. From their docs:
"ozone is based on a central activation architecture. Objects never
leave the server for any reason. The client applications control their
objects in the database via ozone-RMI.
"This architecture has advantages but also disadvantages over systems
that activate objects in the client. ozone is better for applications
where the data are frequently changed by different clients.
They mentioned transaction controls, too, although I haven't seen them
described
yet.
Key features:
multi-user, multi-thread support
object level access rights
fully transaction based
explicite transaction demarcation via JTA (what's JTA?)
deadlock recognition
BLOB support
XML (DOM) support
