I think the solution is being worked on by the slash team. I remember
seeing something about a NNTP interface in the works. If this happens
then you could read slash content 'offline' via your favorite
newsreader.
There are also a variety of 'slash tickers' that grab headlines and do
different things with them.

There is also always the possibility of doing some hacking ourselves and
