This one is worth tracking. It seems that an Open Source security scheme known as Kerberos has been embraced and extended by MS (remember Java?). It also seems that they caved in and published their extensions, but in a manner that kept them proprietary. It turns out that Slashdot.org took them on, and got asked to censor posts.

At this moment, Slashdot.org is down, likely from a DOS hit. So is Freshmeat.net, another andover.net web site. We are living in "interesting times."
