Don Mikuleky just sent to his complexity list the URLs of two talks he gave
in Alaska, one to the public and one to the faculty there. They are:
http://views.vcu.edu/~mikuleck/alskapub.htm
<http://views.vcu.edu/~mikuleck/alskapub.htm>
and one to the faculty
http://views.vcu.edu/~mikuleck/alskuniv.htm
<http://views.vcu.edu/~mikuleck/alskuniv.htm>
I recommend looking at these talks to those who take an interest in modeling
the universe one way or another. In the end, I get from all of this that
our simple Newtonian qualitative reasoning systems are at risk of not being
robust enough to model the universe and everything. Rather, we are going to
have to find some other way(s) of modeling, and an important pointer to the
technology for that lies in Don's talks, and other stuff found at his site

In an earlier post, I mentioned a URL that leads to a paper "Foliated
Semantic Networks"
http://www.univ-perg.fr/see/rch/lts/marty/semantic-ns/
<http://www.univ-perg.fr/see/rch/lts/marty/semantic-ns/> which, in every
respect, discusses the same, similar, and extended ideas. In Marty's paper,
we find the beginnings (IMHO) of a kind of unification of several important
ideas based on: C.S. Peirce, Robert Rosen, and John Sowa.
While I do think that QPT, frames, Topic Maps, and all the rest will give us
early tools with which to begin Doug's profound bootstrapping process, tools
such as my Nexist project http://nexist.sourceforge.net
<http://nexist.sourceforge.net/> and (hopefully) other such OHS-like
testbeds, will all need to be robust enough to survive massive evolutionary
pressure pointing in the direction of new and different approaches to
modeling.
