Director, Packet Systems Group, Sun Microsystems Laboratories (Sun Labs). 1.* As director of Sun Lab's Packet Systems Group, Andy is responsible for research in high-performance network technology. Having been with Sun for over six years, Andy previously headed the Network Software Group, which jointly pioneered high-speed networking technologies such as Fast Ethernet, 155 Mbps and 622 Mbps ATM, each being industry firsts and leaders in performance. 2 A computer industry veteran with 20 years of experience, Andy spent five years at Apple Computer, where he headed HyperCard, Interactive Multimedia, QuickTime, and CD-ROM development groups. Prior to Apple Computer, Andy worked at SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute), where he held several positions in research, engineering, and management. At SRI, Andy first worked in Doug Engelbart's Augmentation Research Center where the mouse, linked hypertext, windows, outline processing, and collaborative computing were invented. He then worked in the Telecommunications Sciences Center where Internet Protocols and packet radio protocols were jointly invented. 3 Andy earned his Bachelor degree in Computer Science and his Masters in EECS from the University of California at Berkeley. 4
